13th December 2021 Update
Over the last month or so the COVID infection rate was rising steadily; then the Omicron variant appeared and within a short space of time new restrictions came into place; and last night the government announced that all over 18’s were to be offered a third jab by the end of December, a month earlier than planned, and resources would be put in place to make this huge undertaking possible.
Clearly, there is now real concern.
This new variant and its potential impact has required everyone, including churches, to consider if it is appropriate to carry on with their activities as they are, especially at this time of year when some church services attract large numbers. As you can imagine, this is a difficult and complex task given the ever changing landscape of the virus and information available to us.
Therefore, after much thought, prayer and reflection it has been decided to pare back our activities over Christmas to help keep everyone safe.
This means that the following services are sadly CANCELLED:
Sunday 19th Cafe 3:30 at Finningley The Carol Service at Finningley
Christmas Eve: Christingle at Finningley at 4.00pm Christmas Eve Communion at Auckley at 10.00pm Midnight Communion at Finningley at 11.30pm
The following will carry on as planned:
Sundays: Usual 9.15 Communion at Finningley and 11.00 Communion at Auckley
Christmas Day: 10.00 service at Finningley
Sunday 26th: No services
There isn’t one single reason for this decision, however everyones health and wellbeing was of course a priority. This year we pray that we can meet with family and friends over Christmas, unlike last year, and taking these precautions will hopefully go some way to enabling this to happen. Contracting COVID at the weekend or beyond would mean isolating away from family and friends over Christmas itself and we definably want to avoid this.
I know some will be disappointed and others relieved, but please know that the decision hasn’t been taken lightly, but it has been taken carefully.
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
If I don’t see you before, I pray you have a great Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our saviour, and stay well.
