NEW: See the New Parish Profile.

To be published here soon

Welcome to the website of the Parishes of Finningley, Blaxton and Auckley. The three villages, situated on the outskirts of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, form two Anglican parishes, each with its own Parish church.

It is now a year since our beloved Rector,
Dr David Ottewell, passed away and he continues to be sadly missed. We are informed that our transfer to the diocese of Sheffield is imminent and we hope that then we can set about the recruitment of a new Priest in Charge. However, the two churches continue as best they can and remain strong communities.

The Church of Holy Trinity and St. Oswald's, Finningley is an 11th century church, set in an open churchyard, part of which is designated a conservation area to provide a natural habitat for wildlife, providing a sanctuary for many varieties of plants and animals. The conservation area naturally divides into spring and summer flowering meadows and is managed accordingly.

St. Saviour's church,  Auckley, was built around 1830 initially as a school and became a place of worship in 1870. St Saviour's church is smaller than
St Oswald's with a seating capacity of 75.

With a current population of 2000, Auckley is a rapidly expanding community.

Since the new Parish Centre was opened last year it has become a centre for the community of Auckley and can, as envisaged by David, be said to be truly serving the community. Around 300 people each week regularly use this centre and attend a variety of functions.

Whilst the Parish Centre is built on Church land, it is not a church building, although the Church has a strong input. It is run by a group of trustees of whom several are church members.

We very much welcome visitors to any of our services. The buildings are warm, the pews are (reasonably) comfortable, the singing is joyful and the spirit of worship warm and relaxed.

The parish churches offer a wide range of styles of worship, to enable as many people as possible to worship in a form which is familiar to them as individuals, whilst encouraging them to explore and engage in some of the alternative forms of worship.

Wherever you are, may God be with you.
