NEWS FROM NON-CHURCH GROUPS
Auckley W.I.
Our April speaker, an ex-policeman Mr. Alan Talbot, gave an enlightening talk on terrorism in relation to his work in the Police Force. In May, we held a general members’ meeting, discussing “Resolutions for our National W.I. – AGM”. Afterwards, three members discussed their hobbies and interests. One was on the history of lace making, another on her art classes and the third member read extracts from an 1856 Epworth newspaper.
Auckley W.I. welcomes new members. We meet the first Thursday of each month, at 7.15 p.m in Auckley Methodist Church. Please come and join us.

The Women’s Institute Ninety-One years Young
I would like to tell you about the W.I. It is a meeting place for women of any age colour or creed. Everyone is welcome. It was started to enable women, mainly mothers, to enhance and change their lives by improving their education, helping others and hopefully helping the community where they lived. By working together over the years we have put forward many resolutions some of which have been taken up by the government.
At the moment we are pressing for less packaging, fewer plastic bags, environmentally friendly heating, retaining adult education, keeping the Post Offices, ending violence against women and many more.
We still make cakes and jam and sing “Jerusalem” but there is a lot more to the W.I. than this. Finningley has a friendly W.I. and we welcome visitors. So come along and see for yourself what we do. We meet on the third Thursday of each month at 7.15 p.m. in Finningley Village Hall.
