FINNINGLEY CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL

Finningley Church of England Primary School became a Voluntary Aided school in September 2003. This move was made to maintain, and further develop the strong Christian ethos referred to in both the 1996 and 1999 OFSTED reports.

Foundation Governors appointed by the Dioceses and local church form a majority on the board. As an Aided school, governors determine the Admissions Policy and have added responsibility with regard to the building.

We hope that this move will further enable the school with the church to best serve the needs of the children of the community.

News from Finningley School

On our return to school after the October Half Term school took its first steps on the pathway of Cross Curricular creativity. We are setting about fitting gack together all those subjects that have been separated in all schools over the last 10 years and we are determined to have fun whilst doing it. To this end we had two integrated days of Art, Drama and English where the children experimented with colour and language stimulated by a range of fun activities.
The work produced here has been phenomenal and all the children I spoke to loved every minute of it. There was so much quality work to choose from and it has been difficult to select a single item but I feel the poem created by Paige in Year 6 sums up the creative flow of school so well:

    I Want to Paint

I want to paint …….. Laughter bouncing across the Hall
As it fills the room with joy,
Hooves plodding on the lonely beach
Whilst the clear blue sea touches its feet.

I want to paint …. A thick, rich mug of hot chocolate
Enters my nostrils and warms me up inside,
The fresh, clean, smoky smell of new
Tack as I walk swiftly into the horse shop

I want to paint ….

My Grandma’s crunchy cookies
Dancing around my mouth as I crumble them,
Runny, dark chocolate pouring into my mouth
Then slipping through my throat

I want to paint …. Fairies diving into a puddle of joy
So gracefully just like a feather
Looking through a glass bottom boat
And seeing different patches of the best coral.

I want to paint …. A ladybird as big as the sun
As I magnify it carefully
An ant growing as big as a Dinosaur
Roaming around the land.

P.S. Please pray for extra strength for our Cleaning staff who do a wonderful job but need ‘Popeye Power’ in the face of 158 Leonardo da Vincis!
